Prāya (प्राय) in sanskrit means general public. Kathmandu falls under the silk route and travellers often crossed the city for during and for trade purposes. It’s no surprise that numerous resting areas were built and are still found around the city. Know as saṭṭala or pati most are now in rather depreciating state though renovation effort have also been undertaken. 

Often carved in wood most pati have wooden balconies with floral motifs or designs. This particular earrings’s cutouts are drawn from such one pati around Patan.
